SUMMARY:
An early start toward Khinay Lhakang with mostly cloudy weather and evening rain. About 10 miles covered in 6 1/2 hours at around 9000 feet, filling two presses with specimens, including a white-flowered tree (18718), a large rhododendron possibly R. macabeanum (18719), and a notable Maddenii-type rhododendron (18720).

- but with His orders. A bad day.
16th April. KHINAY LHAKANG. 6 1/2 hours, including many halts for flowers etc. about 10 miles. c. 9000'. At last the day broke fine, but we had little sun, as almost with daylight, clouds began to roll up, and continued till we had a little rain in the evening. But the day was a good one. We filled two presses to overflowing mostly with quite good flowers. In fact we left quite a number for which there was no room. This morning we were off very early, just before 5.30, we just let the coolies go off ahead, while we came on slowly, trying to collect. There were some good things right away. Just below camp we took a tree (18718) with masses of trusses of white flowers, which is a very fine sight when fully out. This we hope to get seed of. Then we found a big Grande Rhododendron, which may be R. macabeanum 18719. Beyond this was certainly the finest thing we have yet seen, a Rhododendron which I took to be of the Maddenii series 18720, but which I cannot make into anything in the Rhododendron book. This is a tree of 20-30 ft., with a nice clean smooth thin flaking bark, and lax trusses of 3 or 4 enormous flowers. When these are in bud they are a good pink, and even when first
