Documents found inside a copy of Gerarde's Herbal (1633) bought at auction of Captain Henry Trotter of Mortoun Hall's Library on February 10 1947, alongside an extract from a letter presumably sent to RBGE with the documents.

• TRO/3: Abstract from Mrs J.W. Hely-Hutchinson’s letter, 26 February 1947: 'The Gerarde's Herbal in which the papers were found is dated 1633 and was bought at Christie's from the sale of the library of Captain Henry Trotter of Mortoun Hall on Feb. 10th, 1947.'

Two textbooks - Haller's 'History of the Plants of Switzerland' published in 1769 and Bunyan's 'The Pilgrim's Progress' published in 1775. Both include some degree of annotation or inscription.

Third edition of The Pilgrim’s Progress by John Bunyan, published 1775. Inscribed with the names John Murray and Thomas Blaikie on the frontispiece. (Box 2)

Hand written letter from J. Gordon Senior, to Reverend/Mr. Tilson, dated 10th of February 1767, re: strawberry plants – Bath strawberry/Chili Beet, Discussing the identification of the strawberry originally brought to England by the Spanish ambassador 10 years previously, falsely called the chili beet. Enclosed seed of the humming–bird plant.

Minimal; ephemera, 3 documents including a letter from Andrew F. Kedslie to Isaac Bayley Balfour with information from his aunt, Mrs Agnes Arnand, Williamson's great grand-daughter & a copy of Williamson's Testament Dative dated 1780 - all documents appear to have been cut from one of Isaac Bayley Balfour's scrapbooks.

Diary covering the period 1775 to 1781 including an account of a collecting trip in the Swiss Alps and a list of plants collected and sent to Fothergill and Pitcairn from Bourdigny in November 1775. The first page has been cut out.

Contains a loose and undated handwritten note in English and French on particular dates and points in Blaikie's life including residence, age and date of death. (Box 1)
