The Society was set up in the 1960s as the Edinburgh Electron Microscope Society to promote the use of Scanning Electron Microscopes; name changed to Edinburgh Microscopical Society [in the late 1980s] before the Society folded in 2000. In 2016 the files were transferred by Frieda Christie to the Archives at RBGE.
