After graduating with a degree in Botany from the University of Edinburgh in 1951, Andrew John Charles Grierson (1929-1990) was appointed Scientific Officer at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh. A taxonomist, he specialised in Compositae and the Floras of Turkey and Bhutan. (From Obituary by I.C. Hedge and D.G.
