Sous-série organique 1 - University of Edinburgh Botany Class Lists, Indices and Registers

The lists consist of a series of registers, lists and indices relating to the Edinburgh University Botany and Practical Botany classes held at RBGE.

In the past, the ledgers were stored roughly in chronological order, but this meant it was difficult to distinguish between the different types of ledger on the shelf. In 2016, the Class Lists were divided into 5 sub-series and numbered chronologically - Class Lists (CL) which are lists of students with ticket numbers- and addresses; Class Registers (CR) which include the students' attendance records; Class Indices (CI) which are alphabetic lists of students arranged chronologically; Practical Botany Lists (PB) which include lists of students attending these classes along with Vegetable Histology - these are separate to the Botany Classes; and the last has been given the code PH and includes Pharmaceutical students, Practical Botany students, Ladies, Microscopy, Illustration, Exam results, etc. and didn't seem to fit within any of the other sub-series.
