Biographical history
Born in Falkirk in 1873, George Forrest became one of Scotland's most prolific plant collectors, conducting seven expeditions in Yunnan province, S.W. China between 1904 and his death there in 1932.

Archival history
Item was felled in China in 1931 and sent to the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh's Museum at that point. The Museum was disbanded in the 1960s at which point the item was relocated to the Herbarium.
Immediate source of acquisition or transfer
The item was transferred to the RBGE Archives to become part of the Forrest collection in 2004, after being used in the George Forrest: A Life and Legacy exhibition.
