My dear Hicks,
< I have your letter of the 24th about Bhutan photographs of 1949. As it happens[,] I am going to Scotland on Thursday next to stay with the Sherriffs [George Sherriff and Betty Sherriff] and will speak to him on this matter. I don’t think he has any coloured prints of the photographs we took, only the transparencies but if these are what you require I am sure he will loan them to you with pleasure. Since 1949, coloured photography has made enormous strides and correct exposures nowadays are almost foolproof. I am afraid some of our transparencies of 15 years ago suffer by comparison. Still they were not too bad. Would you want just your own coloured transparencies or those that Sherriff and I took as well? Drop me a line about this at the Sherriffs [George Sherriff and Betty Sherriff] address: “Ascreavie, KIRRIEMUIR, ANGUS”. I shall be there until July 13, when I go to Edinburgh to work on the genus Corydalis for a few days. I return here on or about July 21, but leave again in early August for a spell of fishing (sea trout) on the River Taw. I am afraid, therefore, I shall be unable to accept your kind invitation to spend a week end with you this summer. Perhaps next year, if all goes well (I shall then be so) I may do so. I had the misfortune to break my thigh in three places the winter before last, but I made a good recovery, I can now walk 4 or 5 miles a day with ease. I have a good surgeon (J.N. Aston by name) to thank for this.
My very best wishes and I trust you and the family are very fit and well.
Yours sincerely
F. Ludlow
