Bound Lecture Notes relating to Botany courses at the University of Edinburgh and Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh

This is a series created by bringing known sets of lecture notes, usually taken by students attending Botany lectures at the University of Edinburgh provided by the Regius Keeper of the RBGE who usually also held the post of Professor of Botany. Many of these books will have been acquired by Isaac Bayley Balfour.

Copies of Don's entry in Young and Lowson's 'Portrait Gallery of Forfar Notables'

17 photographs acting as a photocopy of George Don's entry in the 1893 publication 'Portrait Gallery of Forfar Notables, from drawings by John Young'. Letterpress by Alexander Lowson, pp.39-52, 178-9 and Young's portrait of George Don [Jnr]. Date of photography unknown - 1960s-1980s? perhaps earlier?; photographer unknown. Photographs were found among the Don reprint collection, January 2014.

Correspondence from Botanical Survey of India, Poona Herbarium

One file of letters from G.S. Puri, Regional botanist, Botanical Survey of India, Wester Circle, Poona to H.R. Fletcher at RBGE describing the development of the Poona herbarium, museum and experimental garden in around 1958. There is discussion of a seed exchange plus a short article on the activities of the Poona herbarium for publication in our journal [was it ever published?].

GB 235 ASH/2: part of one of the tree limbs sliced into sections by Tim Stead to show the damage done internally by fungus; tree limb sections can be arranged to form an artistic sculpture.

On the front is 'J.D. Main' and 'Primula' in Dymo tape.
John D. Main was a student at RBGE before becoming Head of Horticulture.

Notes from the Royal Botanic Garden, Edinburgh, no. XII and XIII

Notes from the Royal Botanic Garden, Edinburgh, no XII and XIII, published in November 1904 and containing information on the principal gardeners at RBGE, mainly John Williamson, Malcolm McCoig, Robert Menzies, John Mackay and George Don. The bulk of the document comprises George Claridge Druce's memoir 'The Life and Works of George Don' followed by Appendices A-E. Appendices F, G and postscript are in the following volume.
