The Reginald Farrer collection comprises correspondence between Reginald Farrer and his family (his mother in particular), E.A. Bowles, John Buchan, Sir Francis Younghusband, Ernest Gye, Sir Isaac Bayley Balfour and others as detailed below. It also includes paintings, photographs, 35mm slides, glass plate negatives and lantern slides covering mainly his two plant collecting expeditions to China in 1914-15 and Burma in 1919-1920, as well as scripts for plays written by Farrer.

•23 letters to Capt. Henderson dated between 1875 &1881 Re: Ferns filed under “Henderson, F”. Also postcard from Fraser to Major Henderson, Chichester, dated April 17, 1879 regarding a lady correspondent in Sandwich Isles [Hawaii] who sends plants and hopes to have some in return.
•M/S Notebook inscribed ”P. Neill Fraser, Canonmills Lodge, Edinburgh, Feb *, 1856” on inside fly-leaf, Containing notes and references to plants, books, indices (mainly ferns), etc. is filed with “Watt, Sir George” papers with which it had been previously included
•2 catalogues of “Exotic Ferns” Grown by P. Neill Fraser, Canonmills Lodge, Edinburgh dated Oct 1. 1871 & April 10, 1875 listing the available ferns from Canonmills Lodge, Edinburgh.

Gordon, Henry J. - Surgeon to “HMS Ganges” 1889 (Index p.33/34 & 84)
• 2 hand written copies of a 5 page paper: ”Flora of Ascension, 1889”; Report by naval surgeon Gordon during a visit by H.M.S. Ganges. Embraces the climate, topography, land plants/trees and marine vegetation. Suggests if more trees were planted the climate could become wetter encouraging more vegetation.
• 1 copy of 9 page hand written list of 156 Plant Specimens; Ascension island flora with common names and botanical ones on separate lists.
