Diary of Joseph F.C. Rock Volume 8, Cho-ni to Sung-pan, 1927 entitled Diary of Joseph F.C Rock, Director Arnold Arboretum Expedition, Vol. VIII, Journey from Choni via Tebbu country to Chungking, March 9th to April 18th [22nd], 1927.
Includes Sept. 14, Oct. 11 1952; Feb. 24-26 1954, New Year 1956-1957 and Aug. 31 1951.
Diary includes Chinese maps and ink sketches of Hawaiian landscapes.
Contains loose map of Minchow ['new country'] dated to 18 Dec. 1925 (with the compliments of J, McGillivray), pressed flowers and notes.

Transcript has been prepared for Rock and includes the corrections made in his annotated copy and although space has been left for him to add Chinese / Tibetan characters, this was not done.

Box 4: 1916-1918; folder of correspondence, mainly to mother but correspondents also include Aubrey Herbert, E.A. Bowles, William Purdom, Nell Purdom [William's sister], Hugh Faulkener and Italian Legation, Beijing. Subjects include Farrer's operation, John Buchan, gardener's pay, London Air Raid, World War One and Edinburgh. Also, letter from John Buchan, Ministry of Information dated 12/12/1917 referring to Farrer's writing; and folder of documents relating to Farrer's time at the Ministry of Information, 1917-18.
