• letter between F.R.S. Balfour of Dawyck and Archie Gibson, 09/08/1939 relating to Sawyers of Inverewe, silver pheasants, and some informatin on rhododendron - falconeri on the Isle of Man reputedly planted pre-1847 (pre-Hooker) - was it sent by Colonel Sykes c. 1830?
• communication between John Patrick of the Rhododendron Venture and Archie Gibson in 1972 regarding plants from Taiwan and the Rhododendron Venture report of 1971. Both this and the FRS Balfour letter above were donated to RBGE in 1999 by Jim Gibson.

•3 boxes of translations and correspondence between Rev. Henry Edward Fowler Garnsey and Isaac Bayley Balfour relating to Garnsey's translation of A.W. Eichler, including the m/s translation itself.

Gordon, Henry J. - Surgeon to “HMS Ganges” 1889 (Index p.33/34 & 84)
• 2 hand written copies of a 5 page paper: ”Flora of Ascension, 1889”; Report by naval surgeon Gordon during a visit by H.M.S. Ganges. Embraces the climate, topography, land plants/trees and marine vegetation. Suggests if more trees were planted the climate could become wetter encouraging more vegetation.
• 1 copy of 9 page hand written list of 156 Plant Specimens; Ascension island flora with common names and botanical ones on separate lists.

•Photocopy of Letter from W.J. Hooker, dated 18th of September 1825 addressed to Dr. Gillies when he was residing at Mendoza (1833 – 1838)

• 11 jotters of pressed wildflowers made when Catherine was 14 years old in 1927/28 for the Girls' Guildry (now the Girls' Brigade) Edinburgh 17th Coy.
• list of the flowers in the 11 jotters

  --7th September 1945, Roland Edgar Cooper to Miss C.F. Glen - thank you for sending sprays of heather - RBGE hoping to propagate and name them - shorthand writing on the reverse, and the envelope has been kept.
  --6th September 1948, Roland Edgar Cooper to Miss Glen acknowledging receipt of her 'very fine contribution ' of heather on the 31st August 1948.

Gordon Senior, to Reverend/Mr. Tilson, dated 10th of February 1767, re: strawberry plants – Bath strawberry/Chili Beet, Discussing the identification of the strawberry originally brought to England by the Spanish ambassador 10 years previously, falsely called the chili beet. Enclosed seed of the humming–bird plant.

• Loose pages of typed, transcript translations (by Garnsay?) of 4 extracts from Goebel’s, “Experimental Morphology”; a comprehensive study of how plants can regenerate.
