Rhododendron protistum section and related items

This is a small series of items relating to the section of Rhododendron giganteum - now named Rhododendron protistum found and collected by George Forrest and his collectors in Yunnan, China on the 15th March 1931. The series consists of the specimen itself, and two of its museum labels.

Rhododendron Giganteum is remarkable for its great size. It is a native of Western Yunnan and was first discovered by Mr George Forrest in 1919.'

Notes written after Yu's time at RBGE ; Chinese botanist Te-Tsun Yu's [T.T. Yu's] career was significant and in recognition that our records of his time at RBGE are limited, RBGE horticulturist Edward Kemp contributed to our records by producing an account of his time spent with Yu alongside a summary of his career. To this is added an assessment of the Yu herbarium written by Jimmy Keenan in the 1960s(?)

On the front is 'J.D. Main' and 'Primula' in Dymo tape.
John D. Main was a student at RBGE before becoming Head of Horticulture.
