Clutch of seven eggs, Crossoptilon harmani. Nest not seen by me, but said to be at the foot of an abies tree, 1/2 m below Langong. Nest in a kind of hole, eggs laid in a little moss & fir leaves. Eggs almost fresh, 9.6.38. 12000'.

Both the blackbird & T. albocinctus are here in numbers. I have not found any nest yet though.

T. m. merula does not come down the valley beyond the open meadow part. Extremely common near Langong.

On the Chubumbu La S side, about 13000', Bill put up a Monal (Sclateri).

24th Saw a Heteroxenicus at about 13500'. It had a nest, I think on a cliff. But the cliff face was with me, & frightened the bird.

Also a nutcracker at Simouari - here also quite a number of spine-tailed swifts, whopping birds, with a gray back.

Aethopyga ignicauda seen on S side of the Karkyu La.
T. affinis at Simouari. T. henrici not noticed.

Lud. Mar 45. Brahminy Duck waddled about on the flat roofs of Tibetan houses searching for nesting sites. Bar-headed Geese were paired & Brown-headed Gulls, fresh from the Indian plains, flew lazily over the semi-frozen lakes. Snow-cock chuckled from the low cliffs behind our camp, where a pair of Tibetan Ravens were already feeding their young. Immense flocks of Grandalas fed on the margins of the marshes.
