April 1861; boards H.M.S. Cossack; voyage to the Cape of Good Hope
Died near Cape of Good Hope(?) January 1862.
Dubuc was an Assistant Surgeon on these ships and his journal is full of descriptions of medical procedures, but also of the plants and animals he saw on his voyages. He would often draw what he saw and would paste inserts from news journals into the diary too. There are 3 inserts of pressed plants, one produced in 1863 after his death. In general, inserts made by Dubuc have been recorded and left in the journal, inserts made after his death, likely by his mother Mary Ann Dubuc have been removed to form the series of letters and newspaper cuttings at no2 in this collection. Mary Ann has pasted some insertions relating to her son into the journal after his death.
Journal written by Emilius Dubuc outlining his voyage from Bombay [Mumbai] on H.M.S. Cyclops commencing May 5 1860, accompanied by a series of letters added to the journal by Dubuc's mother, Mary Ann Dubuc, plus a transcription of the journal likely created by Bob Galt in the 1990s/early 2000s.
