• letter between F.R.S. Balfour of Dawyck and Archie Gibson, 09/08/1939 relating to Sawyers of Inverewe, silver pheasants, and some informatin on rhododendron - falconeri on the Isle of Man reputedly planted pre-1847 (pre-Hooker) - was it sent by Colonel Sykes c. 1830?
• communication between John Patrick of the Rhododendron Venture and Archie Gibson in 1972 regarding plants from Taiwan and the Rhododendron Venture report of 1971. Both this and the FRS Balfour letter above were donated to RBGE in 1999 by Jim Gibson.

2 card index boxes (possibly incomplete) stored in one box, listing monocots from Glasgow University's Herbarium that came to RBGE on permanent loan in 1942.
There is a note in index box 2 from Jennifer Woods which states "...I was looking under stairs ... and found these cards loose but I think complete. They are a record of the Glasgow Herbarium (this includes many types and it is often useful to check on the cards whether we can expect to find a certain collection) which is on permanent loan along with the card index. It is not ours. These are just the monocots. have you still got the dicots?"

Monograph: Letter to William Maurlan from Isaac Bayley Balfour, dated, November 28th 1879, advising that the Commissioners of the Board of Inland Revenue had authorized an annual provision of 30 gallons of methylated spirits to Glasgow University – for the preservation of Botanical Specimens.

large register partly filled with information regarding George Watt's herbarium specimens collected in India, mainly north-western Himalayas, Manipur and the plains and lower hills of India.

Subject matter is mainly plants and trees - some of which are the negatives of the photographs used to produce the album Remarkable Trees of Ayrshire which is held in the RBGE Library – together with some images from Royal Arboricultural Society of Scotland annual summer excursions (1896-1902).

The collection also reflects other aspects of Paxton’s photographic interests: these included architectural studies, particularly of tower houses and other historical subjects, both in Scotland and during private travels to Worcestershire, Hampshire, Devon and the Chanel Islands; experiments with light; a fascination with capturing images of water in all its moods; and albums related to his membership of Talbot Circulating Album Club. It is also rich in portraits of family and friends and lively studies of their leisure pursuits.

Collection includes Paxton's bound photographs of 'Remarkable Trees in Ayrshire' presented to the RBGE in December 1894 at the request of Regius Keeper Isaac Bayley Balfour.
