George Sherriff diary 1949, volume 2

This file contains the 1949 diary of G. Sherriff. The dairy consists of two bound volumes. Volume 1 contains a number of page markers and some folded paper within the inside cover. The folder paper consist of: an itinerary; a list of seeds from Bhutan; a letter from K. Biswas requesting a photograph of Ludlow and Sherriff as well as details of their expeditions, so that he might include them in his book 'Plants of the Eastern Himalaya'. Volume 2 contains a number of letters interleaved in the back pages of the bound book. These are: a letter from RBGE; a written note; a clipping from the Illustrated London News with colour photographs of 'Aquatics in Kashmir'; a reprint form the Transactions of the British Mycological Society, 'Note on Cordyceps from Tibet'.

(1) hand written note, in pencil, with collection numbers and species names. Written by George Sherriff. 2 pages.

(2) Letter to George Sherriff from Prof. William Wright Smith (26 Aug 1949). Reply from a letter dated 23 July. Gives impression of 2 primulas (elongata and barnardoana). Sorry to hear Betty Sherriff has been injured. Hasn't been able to do much work on Primulas due to being short on staff. 1 page.

(3) REPRINT: Note on a Cordyceps from Tibet by H. Chaudhuri. Transactions of the British Mycological Society, Volume 16, Issues 2–3, 1931, Pages 203-205. 1 page.

(4) a clipping from the Illustrated London News with colour photographs of 'Aquatics in Kashmir'. 4 loose pages.

This file contains the diary of G. Sherriff from 1940. unbound, 12 lined loose-leaf sheets.

This file contains the 1938 diary of G. Sherriff. There are a number of loose leaf pages interleaved throughout the pages of the bound book. These include 39 itineraries/route plans.

This file contains the 1937 diary of G. Sherriff. There are a number of loose leaf sheets interleaved between the back pages of the bound book. These are: a numbered plant list with small sketches (of the route and possibly the flower shape); a further numbered plant list.

George Sherriff 1936 diary, volume 2 of 2. Contains loose leaf sheets interleaved in the pack pages of the bound book. This is an itinerary stretching to several pages.

1936 diaries of G. Sherriff volume 1 of 2.

Documents originally found interleaved between the back pages of the bound book. These include:

(1) a sketch route map in pencil. 1 page.

(2) two letters from Syed Mohamed Rasemulla. Dated 14 Oct 1934 and 5 Aug 1934. 1 page each.

(3) Partial letter from Frank Ludlow. Dated. 3 Aug [No Year]. Listing what he has seen in regards to botany, birds, and butterflies. Gives details about the route he has been taking. Begins to write about his plans but gets cut off. There is a torn piece of paper, that appears to be the rest of the letter, signed F. Ludlow. This torn paper has some brief notes by George Sherriff written on it in pencil. 1 page + 1 scrap.

(4) Hand-written table. No title. Months down the side and names across the top. Filled in with numbers and totals at the bottom of each column. Possibly a list of the number of specimens plants/seeds sent out during the year. 1 page.

(5) "Mails for Captain Sherriff". Details of mail received. Note from Lukarimullah, no date. 1 page.

(6) "Account for Captain Sherriff". Details of expenses. Brief note at the bottom by Lukarimullah, dated 8 Nov 1934. 1 page.

(7) 2 very brief notes on scraps of paper. 2 scraps.
