Contains a loose and undated handwritten note in English and French on particular dates and points in Blaikie's life including residence, age and date of death. (Box 1)
Blaikie, Thomas, 1751-1838, gardenerGreen vellum file, annotated ‘Claims upon the French Government by Thos. Blaikie’, containing 17 handwritten letters and notes by and to Blaikie, mainly in relation to losses incurred during the French Revolution. These include correspondence with the Office of Commissioners for Claims on France, James Lee at the Hammersmith nursery and the Foreign Office. The papers date from 1791 to 1890. (Box 1)

- 3 notebooks including financial records, language studies and diaries;
- 17 pieces of correspondence and handwritten notes;
- a printed compendium of Swiss flora;
- a copy of John Bunyan’s Pilgrim’s Progress;
- 4 prints of notable 18th century French figures; and
- two photographs of items which belonged to Blaikie's family.
One green vellum bound notebook containing accounts for customers arranged by surname. A number of pages have been removed. The earliest entry is January 1789 and latest is June 1822.
Contains a loose handwritten note compiled in 2003 detailing the missing pages and method of their removal and noting that it was faxed to Pat Taylor. (Box 2)

There is an accompanying notebook, blank, but with columns for No., Length, Girth, Contents and Cost.

Bunyan, John, 1628-1688, authorPaul Aellen was a visitor to the RBGE Herbarium in the Winter of 1964, one of the earliest to the new building opened in June of that year. He worked very diligently in a quiet way on the top floor, researching Turkish Chenopodiaceae. To the amazement of the herbarium staff, just before he returned home to Basle he handed over this delightful and amusing account of his observations on the microcosm of life in theherbarium with photographs, magazine cuttings and beautifully witty pencil and ink sketches.
