SUMMARY:
Field notes from the Kongbo Nga La listing several plant specimens with seed collections and observations on their occurrence on the east and west sides of the pass. A brief narrative notes a strenuous climb, abundant larch with unusual form, and Rhododendron vellereum being common.

  2. Rhododendron vellereum sp. (6-12') SEED taken with dried specimen. Common both sides of pass.
  3. Rhododendron primulaeflorum v. cephalanthoides (2-4') SEED taken with dried specimen. Common on W side.
  4. Primula sp. (Florindae?) Yes. SEED only taken.
  5. Primula atrodentata. In flower. Just showing. E. side.
  6. Primula walshii (pumilio?) In flower. Just showing. E. side.

  8. Box (Buxus microphylla). Common both sides up to about 11000' or 11500'.

A strenuous climb to the summit of the Kongbo Nga La was welcome descent on the far side.
There is a lot of larch on both sides of the pass. The biggest trees are of peculiar shape. They have quite thick trunks for 20-30 ft & then suddenly taper to a point.

SUMMARY:
Field notes record multiple alpine plant collections and seed gathering around Putrang La, including Codonopsis seed collected below Lhapso Dzong at about 11,000 feet on 31/03/1938. The diary also notes damage to baggage from donkey transport and a descent toward the Tsangpo amid poor transport arrangements.
