"Ahmed Shaikh was the expedition's official cook. Ludlow had engaged him in this capacity in 1929 to accompany him to Kashgar and the Thian Shan. He was a fairly good cook but, being domineering and very argumentative, he did not mix too well with the other servants. And he was utterly uninterested in the work and collections of the expedition."
